About SNOW FARM

Snow Farm is a 501(c) non-profit arts education program located in Williamsburg, Massachusetts near Amherst and Northampton. It is set on 50 beautiful acres of fields and woodland. The facility is a blend of historic 200-year-old farm buildings and contemporary living and dining accommodations.
Here we offer you an artistic sanctuary where you can set aside the worries of your daily life. We will nourish your soul with artistic excellence and nurture your spirit within a community that inspires creativity. Snow Farm will provide you with instruction by top-notch professional artisans from around the world in a community setting that fosters the common bond of creativity and appreciation for the learning process. Continuing Education Site for Teachers
Snow Farm is an approved Massachusetts Department of Education Professional Development Provider (PDP). All workshops at Snow Farm may be taken for Professional Development credits.
Schedule for Adult Weekend Intensives
Morning Instruction time begins at 10:00am on the first day and 9:00am each day thereafter.
Lunch Break 12:15–1:30
Afternoon Instruction time: 1:30pm–4:30pm (4:00pm on the last day)
Dinner Break 6:15–7:15
Studios are open around the clock for your use,
except for glass classes which will be scheduled by the instructor.
Lodging & Meals at Snow Farm for
Adult Weekend Intensives
Accommodations are no-frills dormitory style housing with shared same sex bathrooms.
Rooms have one or two twin beds with a shelving unit, bedside table and a place to hang clothes. Rates are listed under each workshop description and are based on double occupancy. A limited number of single rooms are available for an extra charge.
Meals start with lunch on the first day of the Intensive and end with lunch on the last day of the Intensive.
While we love kids, these workshops and housing during Intensives is for adults only (with the exception of the June 28-29 and October 25-26 adult/teen weekends). Sorry, no pets allowed.
Commuters
People commuting may purchase individual meals.

Lab Fees
The cost of supplies and materials used in Adult Intensive Workshops is not included in the tuition. Some of the workshops have set Lab Fees which are listed next to the tuition amount and are paid at the time of registration, while other workshops have Lab Fees based on materials used by the entire class as well as by each individual. These lab fees are paid on the last day of the Intensive and range roughly from $10 to $80.
Registration Fee
Along with the Tuition, Lab Fee, and optional Room & Board or individual meals, there is a once yearly $25 registration fee for Adult Intensives. This registration fee will only be charged for the first registration in the 2008 calendar year and does not apply to any subsequent registrations in 2008.
Class Size
Class size is limited to 6-10 students in order to allow you lots of workspace, maximum accessibility to equipment, and plenty of personal interaction with instructors.
How to Register
Students may register by mail, phone, fax or on our web site www.snowfarm.org. Payment must be in full at the time of registration.
Mail: Registration must be accompanied by a check or credit card number for full amount.
Phone: Registrations will not be taken over the phone except where payment is being made by credit card.
Fax: Registrations must include a credit card number.
Online: Registrations received online are not complete unless full payment is made by mailing in a check or calling Snow Farm with a credit card number.
Registrations cannot be held without full payment.
Cancellation Policy
All cancellations must be in writing and mailed, e-mailed or faxed to our business office address. Snow Farm will refund tuition, less a $75 withdrawal fee, for any participant who sends written cancellation of enrollment 30 days before the workshop is scheduled to commence. There will be no tuition refunds for any cancellations less than 30 days before the scheduled date of a workshop because of our obligations to our instructors and housing reservations.  There is no return or prorating of fees for early departure from or late arrival to a workshop, regardless of the cause of departure.
If it is necessary for Snow Farm to cancel a course for any reason, all registered students will be notified two weeks before the start date and offered the option of another course during the same workshop weekend or a full refund of all deposits including the registration fee. Students who are flying should check on enrollment numbers before purchasing airline tickets. Sorry, but we can’t be responsible for non-refundable airline tickets.

WORKSHOP SAMPLER FOR ADULTS: MAY 16-18

This weekend is a variation of our typical Adult Workshop format and is designed to give participants a sampling of two different classes in one weekend. Participants arrive for 5:00pm on May 16th for Orientation with instructors showing images of their work after dinner. Classes run on the 17th and 18th, with participants registering for a different class each of the two days. Come and join us for this high energy weekend packed full of exciting offerings!

FUSED GLASS: System 96: • Tony Smith
In this class, students will learn the basics of kiln-formed glass. Firing schedules for fusing and slumping will be discussed and students will learn about surface treatments and sandblasting and how glass firepolishes in the kiln. A variety of projects will be completed in this one-day, introductory class. (Tuition $115 plus $25 lab fee) room & meals $100

INTRO TO GLASSBLOWING: • Nathan Macomber
This workshop will introduce basic glassblowing techniques with students learning the use of tools, gathering techniques and how to blow basic forms such as cups, bowls and paperweights. A wonderful exposure to a very exciting and mesmerizing process! (Tuition $125 plus $30 lab fee) room & meals $100

INTRO TO PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS: • Sean McDevitt
Learn to use your computer as an alternative to the traditional darkroom. Import images from 35mm film, prints, or digital cameras; then retouch, adjust contrast and color, burn, dodge and print. Students can bring their own Apple Macintosh computer (G3 or G4 processor) or use one of Snow Farm’s. Sean will also give tips and suggestions for troubleshooting and maintaining your computer. (Tuition $125 plus $10 lab fee) room & meals $100

INTRO TO LAMPWORKING: Beads & Pendants: • Joe Peters
This workshop will introduce the Venetian art of glass bead making. Using an oxygen/propane torch, students will melt glass rods to make unique beads & pendants. Learn to shape the glass and incorporate decorations to personalize each piece which you can string into a necklace or bracelet. (Tuition $115 plus $25 lab fee) room & meals $100
 
WELDING: • Alison Safford
A workshop designed to teach the basics of welding, cutting and bending of steel. Students will learn how to integrate sheet metals with rod, and parts of found objects to create a simple outdoor sculpture or decorative piece. The possibilities are endless and well within the grasp of the total beginner. (Tuition $115 plus $30 lab fee) room & meals $100

JEWELRY MAKING: The Now What Class! • Gina Poppe
Now, what do you do with the glass beads or pendants you have collected or made in classes at Snow Farm? This class is the answer to that question. We will work with all aspects of bead stringing, pearl knotting, clasps, crimps and much more to make a one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry. The emphasis will be on design with you bringing home a beautiful bracelet or necklace incorporating all you’ve worked so hard to learn. (Tuition $115 plus lab fee) room & meals $100

RAKU FIRING & WHEEL THROWING: • Bob Green
Raku is a dramatic firing technique rooted in the tea ceremony of ancient Japan. Pots are taken out of the kiln red-hot and placed in a combustible material such as wood chips or paper. Depending on the glaze used, results can vary from lustrous metallic to white a crackle. Students will also spend some time at the wheel learning or practicing centering skills. No prior ceramic experience necessary. Stoneware items for firing will be provided or students may bring their own white stoneware pots bisque fired to cone 06. (Tuition $115 plus $15 lab fee) room & meals $100

PAINTING ON GLASS: • Bert Lamothe
This class will touch on the basics of glass painting. Techniques will include trace painting and matting as well as mixing of paints. Firing schedules will be among the topics covered. (Tuition $115 plus lab fee) room & meals $100

BUILD A TWIG TRELLIS: • Mark Ragonese
Using materials from the woods at Snow Farm, you will learn the basics of rustic trellis building and an assortment of joinery techniques to create your own one-of-a-kind piece of garden art. No woodworking experience is necessary. (Tuition $205) room & meals $115

MID SPRING ADULT WORKSHOPS: MAY 24-26

KILN GLASS: • Paula Kochanek
This class is great for those with or without glass experience and has wide applications for both sculptural and functional forms. We’ll cover fusing and slumping, as well as surface decoration. Paula’s emphasis is on the creative process, giving attention to your individual needs. You’ll complete several pieces with projects ranging from fused two and three dimensional panels to slumped bowls, plates and even jewelry! This is a workshop that enables participants to develop an intimate understanding of the boundless potential of glass. (Tuition $295 plus $40 lab fee) room & meals $160

BEGINNER GLASSBLOWING: • Peter Muller
Glassblowing is an exciting and mesmerizing process, as you watch the transformation of the glass from glowing honey to glittering solid. This workshop is for the beginner as well as lower-level intermediates. Students will learn the use of tools, gathering techniques and how to blow basic forms such as cups, bowls and paperweights along with attaching handles and feet. With one-on-one instruction, students will have an opportunity to complete a number of pieces. (Tuition $380 plus $100 lab fee) room & meals $160

THE SQUARE WHEEL: Altered Forms: • Sequoia Miller
Northwest studio potter Sequoia Miller shares his thoughts and methods for altering wheel-thrown pots in this three-day hands-on workshop. Participants will work both on and off the wheel, using Sequoia’s techniques as a starting point for exploring both the why and how of distorting and re-imagining round forms. Demonstrations will include altered cylinders and bowls, as well as altered lidded and pouring forms. Studio time, individual attention, slides and discussion will complement the demonstrations. Experience on the wheel is very helpful, though the workshop can be handbuilding entirely. (Tuition $295 plus $20 lab fee) room & meals $160

PAINTED CANVAS FLOOR CLOTHS: • Laura Curran
Floor cloths were an integral part of early New England homes, and have enjoyed a revival in contemporary home decoration. A canvas floor cloth is, in essence, a “floor decoration”, totally functional, but with compelling colors, a variety of designs, and original patterning that gives a unique and personal look to a room. A nurturing workshop for beginners with lots of challenges, as well as, for those more advanced in surface design techniques. Over the course of the weekend students will each complete one floor cloth. (Tuition $295 plus lab fee) room & meals $160

PAPER VESSELS: • Jackie Abrams
Paint and create your own basket materials with acrylic paint on cotton watercolor paper. Learn about surface design techniques and the practical application of color. Several basketry techniques will be explored, including weaving, bias plaiting, and hexagonal weave with interlacing. Weave baskets with graceful curves, angular shoulders, corners, fee, double walls, or covers. Experimentation, exploration and laughter are all encouraged. This workshop is suitable for both beginners and more advanced basketmakers. (Tuition $295 plus lab fee) room & meals $160

HOLLOW FORM CONSTRUCTION: Metalsmithing: • Rob Peacock
Students in this workshop will learn the fundamental skills involved to create three-dimensional forms which can be incorporated into functional pieces of jewelry. The focus of this class will evolve around the forming and soldering techniques used to create a variety of simple shapes used when designing bracelets, rings, pendants, and earrings. Some soldering experience is helpful but not necessary. (Tuition $295 plus lab fee) room & meals $160

GLASS BEADMAKING & HOLLOW FORMS: • Sally Prasch
Venetian glass techniques are world renowned and Sally’s glass beads are both a stunning example of the use of Moretti cane, as well as lovely hollow-formed jewelry created from borosilicate glass tubing! This far-ranging workshop incorporates lampworking with both types of glass, enabling you to move from hand-wound beads to small sculptural forms-bugs, animals, vases and goblets. We will discuss and explore a range of techniques including trailing, feathering, pulling lattichino, and working with murrini. The results are far-ranging, from classic to highly patterned beads and fabulous hollow forms, filled with whimsy and a delight to the eye. (Tuition $315 plus $80 lab fee) room & meals $160

STONE CARVING: • Gail Whitsitt-Lynch
Stone carving is one of the oldest forms of making sculpture. In this workshop you will be brought back to a direct connection with a beautiful and permanent material. Using the simplest of tools, you will be expertly guided in the creation of a complete sculpture.  Carving stone is a fascinating method of seeing and developing forms that can change and enhance the way you will see and work with natural structures from then on. COLLAGE & ASSEMBLAGE: Free Flowing Collaboration: • Alexandra Sheldon & Alison Safford
Alexandra and Alison team up to teach Collage and Assemblage together. Two classes in one! This is for collage students wanting to explore three-dimensional art-making and assemblage students wanting to learn the two-dimensional approach. Under one roof, this class will combine two fabulous techniques allowing students the freedom to flow between collage and assemblage. The focus will be on the individual student’s concepts and methods, with the two instructors guiding the student through materials and techniques. For beginners and advanced students alike. We will play with different materials and ways of joining them; papers, metals, glues, rivets, washes of color, found objects, photographs and more. WELDING FOR HOME AND GARDEN: • Pat Bennett
Just in time for relaxing and entertaining outside! This is your opportunity to create artwork from metal which can weather the seasons and grace your garden and home for years to come. Trellises, wind chimes, tables, plant stands and abstract sculptures, fabricated from a range of metals and using a variety of welding and metalworking techniques. The possibilities are endless and well within the grasp of the total beginner, while challenging for those with experience in sculpture and/or working with metals. COLORED CLAY: • Naomi Lindenfeld
This workshop will explore the traditional Japanese technique of combining colored clays, using a contemporary approach. It will focus on layering the colored clays to create patterns. Pieces will be formed with handbuilding methods. It is a wonderfully organic process that integrates the patterned designs with the piece. This workshop will include a slide presentation of current colored clay work by a broad range of artists, as well as demonstrations and hands-on experience. GLASSBLOWING: Intermediate: • Jim Holmes
This will be a fast paced workshop designed for students with prior glassblowing experience. This is an opportunity to experiment with new techniques and grow as an artist. The workshop will emphasize the development of more advanced glass-forming techniques and skills leading to greater control of the medium. Students will work on creating larger forms and more technically challenging pieces. Each day will be a combination of demonstration, formal instruction and guided practice time with concentration on individual needs. (Tuition $380 plus $100 lab fee) room & meals $160

COILED OVAL BASKET USING AUTHENIC INDIAN DESIGN: • Elizabeth Whyte Schulze
Using natural materials, hand dyed raffia and flexible round reed, students will weave an unusual basket in the oval shape. A simple and easy stitch binds the rows together constructing a solid tightly woven basket. The variety of colors of raffia allows students to learn how to make a fine design similar to those used by Native American basket makers. Finely coiled baskets made in this technique were known as treasure baskets and highly regarded in the community. All materials are provided by the instructor and students will be charged a fee. BOTANIC ILLUSTRATION TECHNIQUES: • Jeanne Kunze
A beautiful botanic illustration exemplifies the artist’s ability in observation and expression. This workshop will concentrate on the media techniques of graphite and/or colored pencil. Students will be guided in the creative process of converting the observed three dimensional plant subject into a two dimensional piece of botanical art. The instructor will share with students her many years of experience as an artist, teacher and exhibiting Botanic Illustrator through directed exercises and individual support. LAMPWORKING: Solid Figures and Small Vessels at the Torch: • Joe Peters
This class will focus on the making of glass figures with both soft and borosilicate glass using the Venetian technique. You will also learn how to blow and form small hollow vessels of various shapes. We will start from simple hollow ornaments and move quickly to perfume bottles and all the way to small goblets. Basic lampworking experience is helpful. (Tuition $315 plus $80 lab fee) room & meals $160

ENAMELED VESSELS IN A FLASH: • Kate Cathey
Watch sparks fly as we shape, hammer, and enamel a gorgeous vessel or bowl in three days! Beginners as well as experienced metalsmiths and enamellists will explore the many options available to fabricate a simple vessel form that speaks from the heart and hand. We will use rivets, tabs, fold forming, and copper wire as connection mechanisms-no soldering required! Surface texture will be emphasized as well using the roll mill, flex shaft, dapping/design punches, and layering with fine guage copper sheet. Then, into the kiln to bring your bowl to life with color! Instructor will demonstrate various application techniques using dry and liquid enamels and additive materials. WOOD TURNING: • Mark Ragonese
From functional bowls and utensils to elegantly turned vessels, this practical workshop will free your creative spirit. Combine the mesmerizing symmetry of shaping on the lathe with the beauty of thoughtfully carved wood. Top it all off with the opportunity to experiment with a variety of woods from ash and poplar to walnut and cherry. INTERGENERATIONAL WEEKEND: JUNE 28-29

This weekend is designed to inspire both adults and teenagers, and to provide an environment of artistic expression, community, and fun for individuals and families. Come and share together an inspirational weekend away from the hectic pace of daily life. (An adult must accompany each teenager rooming at Snow Farm, but does not have to enroll in the same workshop).

INTRODUCTION TO GLASSBLOWING: • Gabriel Colwell-LaFleur
Glass provides a spectacular variety of opportunities for personal expression. It can be unbelievably delicate, or formidable in weight. Glassblowing workshops are always in high demand at Snow Farm. In this introductory workshop, participants will explore the fundamentals of manipulating this exciting and molten medium. Instruction is one-on-one giving you an opportunity to complete a few pieces, as well as to work at your own pace and level. (Tuition $270 plus $70 lab fee) room & meals $115

WIRE JEWELRY & WIRE WORKING: • Joy Raskin
Explore the wonderful world of working with wire.  Wire is such a fascinating, flexible medium that you can do so much with it.  We will coil, wrap, tinker, weave, twine, braid, crotchet, knit, twist and much more to make all kinds of fabulous jewelry and accessories.  Wire is not just confined to jewelry, but can be used to make vessels, baskets, lampshades and other wonderful home accessories.  Even sculpture can be created with wire. We will be using colored copper wire, brass, bronze, nickel and silver wire.  Best of all, it’s low-tech and does not require a lot of fancy tools to work with.  (Tuition $205 plus lab fee) room & meals $115

SUMMER ADULT WORKSHOPS: AUGUST 7-10

IMITATIVE TECHNIQUES IN POLYMER CLAY: • Victoria Hughes
Learn from the woman who invented these techniques! In this class you will learn how to imitate any non-polymer material by observing and reproducing various aspects of the work around you. This will teach you a way to analyze and recreate almost anything! Using polymer clay, you will learn to mimic ivory, jade, amber, coral, and turquoise, making objects and adornments. In class we’ll focus on pendants, beads, and earrings, but the techniques can be used for anything. Working with this seductive material can inspire very sophisticated, technically intricate work, as well as raw, experimental expression. (Tuition $385 plus lab fee) room & meals $210

3-D SHIBORI: Dimensional, Shaped and Textured: • Mo Kelman
In this workshop we will explore ways of using shibori to not only dye and discharge patterns onto fabric, but to also shape fabrics three-dimensionally for wearables, sculpture and wall art. We will take advantage of the thermoplastic (heat forming) properties of silk and polyester and the felting properties of wool to transform the flat fabric plane into textured surfaces and sculptural forms. We will use both acid and procion dyes and thiox for discharge. Students will produce a series of shaped, dyed and discharged fabric samples, as well as either a three-dimensional silk scarf or prototype of a sculptural form. This is an ideal workshop for students with previous shibori experience or ambitious novices. (Tuition $385 plus lab fee) room and meals $210

CHASING THE RAINBOW: Color on Precious Metal Clay: • Linda Kaye-Moses
We will explore the use of metal clay and color. Using Fine Silver Precious Metal Clay (PMC3) we will make wearable objects (pendants, beads or earrings), both hollow and solid with both subtle and deep textures. Allowing the silver to shine through, we will add color to these objects with colored pencil and vitreous enamels. A tools and equipment list will be furnished prior to class and all materials for your piece, including polishing/finishing supplies will be available. Experience in jewelrymaking or enameling is not required for this class, where the only limit is your imagination and the only prerequisite is enthusiasm. Beginners will receive the personal attention that will help them work with the PMC, though some experience with Precious Metal Clay will be helpful. GLASS BEADMAKING WITH ENAMELS AND FOILS: • Nancy Tobey
This class is designed for the student with some lampworking experience who wants to take their work to new levels. With the use of Thompson Enamels and a variety of metal foils you will learn how to change the texture of your beads, increase your color palette and create an organic look that resembles that of borosilicate glass. Students will be encouraged to step outside of their comfort zone with glass and learn some creative ways to experiment with glass and various materials. Students will use their 35mm mechanical camera and learn to create excellent black and white prints in the darkroom. These skills will reinforce content of digital photography allowing students to make technical and artistic connections between the two. Emphasis will also be placed on the use of the computer as a parallel tool to traditional photographic processes. Scanning film, retouching, burning, dodging, color correction, and printing will be the technical focus. We will also discuss and evaluate the role of the computer in contemporary photography and compare digital imaging techniques with traditional photographic processes. Create your own unique ceramic container for an Ikebana flower arrangement while experiencing first hand this traditional Japanese art form. Demonstrations and slide presentations of Ikebana arrangements will introduce students to the vast possibilities for designing containers for plant material. Step by step instructions of basic hand building techniques will help guide participants to create different three-dimensional ceramic forms. This will be a fast paced 5-day workshop designed for students with prior glassblowing experience. This is an opportunity to experiment with new techniques and grow as an artist. The workshop will emphasize the development of more advanced glass-forming techniques and skills leading to greater control of the medium. RECOVERED, RECYCLED, REBUILT: Make a Wall Cabinet: • Mark Ragonese
Using simple woodworking and hand tools, students will use a mixed media approach to create an expressive piece of art using unique materials. We will use salvaged metal, found objects, recycled and natural materials and incorporate them into a small functional cabinet for displaying your treasures. There will be excursions to the woods at Snow Farm as well as instruction working with materials students bring such as old barn boards, window frames, and hand wrought hinges. BEGINNER GLASSBLOWING: • Jordana Korsen
Glassblowing is an exciting and mesmerizing process, as you watch the transformation of the glass from glowing honey to glittering solid. Students will learn the use of tools, gathering techniques and how to blow basic forms such as cups, bowls and paperweights along with attaching handles and feet. With one-on-one instruction, students will have an opportunity to complete a number of pieces. (Tuition $380 plus $100 lab fee) room & meals $160

SMOKE & FIRE: Raku and Pit Firing: • Bob Green
In this action packed three days, you’ll do a series of pit firings, characteristic of Native American potter, and Raku firings, with roots in the tea ceremony of Japan. We’ll explore, as well, the decorative versatility of terra sigillatta “coloration”, found within both Native American and Greek works in clay. Surface flashing, colorant oxides, multiple-firings, uses of slips and much more will be covered. Bring your white stoneware, cone 06 bisque pots and come ready for action! SCULPTURAL KNITTING: • Adrienne Sloane
Unleash your creative talent through a well-loved medium. This class in 3D knitting will help students develop a personal language of forms through exploring and using knitting fundamentals to create shapes while taking advantage of knit’s natural tendencies. By manipulating stitches and working with unconventional materials, students will problem solve using the body as model. A slide show of artists who use knitting techniques as a means of creative expression will be shown for inspiration. Students must know basic knitting techniques. TECHNIQUES IN BOROSILICATE BEADS: • Nancy Tobey
This workshop is designed for the intermediate to advanced beadmaker interested in learning about the unique (and sometimes frustrating) qualities of borosilicate glass. Using Northstar Borocolour rods and frits, students will explore the process of color development through oxidation and reduction. Nancy will work with each student to guide your experiments with color combinations, oxygen/propane ratios, and annealing temperatures to help you learn about the “magical” properties of hard glass.  (Tuition $315 plus $80 lab fee) room & meals $160

From the artisans of ancient Greece, to Jasper Johns who brought encaustic into the modern art world, painting with wax has enraptured artists for centuries.  The art of painting with hot wax provides limitless possibilities for any artist, and once you experience this amazing technique, you’ll be hooked!  Explore this ancient medium of painting with hot wax in new and exciting ways.  This workshop will cover safe practices, as well as surface preparation, mixing colors, tools and techniques for fusing, transparencies and glazes, layering, scraping, and scribing, line and edge, collage, assemblage, monotype, image transfer, and much more.  Participants will have the opportunity to complete several small encaustic paintings during this workshop. Let your imagination go wild!  Play and design with wool and color in this hand-feltmaking workshop.  You will be introduced to the ancient technique of felting by creating personal one-of-a-kind pieces out of fine merino wool.  Lesley will teach you fundaments in feltmaking and several hat making techniques such as: “around the ball” and “with a resist”.  You will learn how to lie out, felt and block unique hats, handbags, scarves or wall hangings and how to decorate them.  This is a terrific workshop for all ability levels and is a craft that can be easily done at home or in a classroom.  (Tuition $295 plus lab fee) room & meals $160

GLASS BEADS: • Sally Prasch
Venetian glass techniques are world-renowned and this workshop will focus on lamp worked hand-wound beads. We will discuss and explore a range of techniques including trailing, feathering, pulling latticino and working with murrini. The results are far ranging, from classic to highly patterned beads to detailed tiny sculptures which can stand on their own as wearable art. This workshop is perfect for both beginner and experienced students. (Tuition $230 plus $50 lab fee) room & meals $115

FUSING WITH DICHROIC ACCENTS: • Gina Poppe
Dichroic glass can add a lot of the “wow” to your fused glass art. This class will explore the creative possibilities using dichroic glass. Many potters are making original functional pottery or sculpture but feel limited as to their glaze formulas or application techniques. The workshop will introduce the potter to several simple methods that will enable them to formulate their own glazes along with adjusting existing glaze formulas for temperature range, color, and texture. If you ever wanted to develop your own glaze, this workshop will offer easy to use guidelines for distinctive glaze results. Common glaze defects, cause, and corrections will also be discussed in detail with examples of each defect. (Tuition $205) room & meals $115

DEMYSTIFYING STONE SETTING: • Joy Raskin
If you have ever wanted to know how to set stones or if you would like to know more about stone setting, then this workshop is for you. Basic bezel mounts from the simplest settings to more elaborate tube bezel settings, prong setting for round, oval, square, trillion, emerald-cut facet stone and more will all be covered. This workshop will not cover pave or illusion settings. We will work mostly in silver, but also with some gold settings if desired. Pros and cons of various gold alloys will be discussed and which are best for gemstones. Students may bring their own stone settings projects to work on along with any stones, silver and gold they may have or you may purchase them during class.
