FAQ

About the Program

How many students are in each studio?
There is a maximum of nine students with two instructors in each studio.  Our low teacher-student ratio assures that every student receives individual attention and critique on their work.

Can students take the same studio in the morning and afternoon?
All students take two different studios.  We will place every student in his/her first choice, unless that studio is already full at the time of application. Apply early!  For the second studio, all students will be placed in one of his/her three alternate choices.

What “type” of kids come to Snow Farm?
All the students who come to Snow Farm have one thing in common – they are passionate about art. Year after year, we see students form a safe, welcoming and accepting community where they quickly make important friendships.

Where are your students from?
Our students come from across the country – and sometimes around the world! Of course, many of them are from New England, but every year we welcome kids from as far as California and as close as Boston.

How do you handle medical emergencies and students who take daily medication?
We take student health and safety seriously and have a well-honed system in place. Our staff nurse reviews all the medical forms before any students arrive and will confer with families if there are any concerns.  The nurse directs the daily medication schedule which is administered by the Assistant Director.  Our on-call doctor is located just a couple miles down the road and provides excellent urgent care when needed.  Our local hospital is in Northampton, about 15 minutes away.

Do you have a visiting day?
In addition to drop off day and pick up, parents and family members are welcome to schedule a visit during the summer session. We ask that you let us know ahead of time so we can be sure you won’t arrive to find your student out on a field trip.  Non-family guests are not permitted.

Can I get school credit for being in the program?
If your school has a process by which you can apply for credit, we will be glad to provide them any documentation they request. Even if you don't get credit at your high school, please keep in mind that at Snow Farm Summer, you'll recieve a minimum of 6 hours a day of studio instruction. You'll develop expertise in two areas of study.  Many students say the experience at Snow Farm feels like a semester of college, and students who come for 3 or 4 years, acquire skills that can place them out of college courses.

Applications, Scholarships & Payment

What is the deadline for applications?

  •  March 15, 2018 is the deadline for applications with a request for a need-based scholarship.
  • If you are not applying for a scholarship, April 13, 2018 is the priority deadline for first-choice studios. However, we recommend applying as early as you can.  We confirm first-choice studios in the order that we recieve applications, and they can fill up.
  • Two other important dates:
    • May 15, 2018 is the last day to cancel with a refund.
    • All payments are due on June 1, 2018.

If I am awarded a scholarship, will it cover all my expenses?
Scholarships are need-based and we want to support as many students as possible.  The average scholarship is $1500 which covers about half of the cost of the program.  We have seen students raise the other half by saving money from a job, getting gifts from grandparents or other family members, or even using a GoFundMe campaign.  In some cases, we do award full scholarships, it just depends on the pool of applicants in any given year.  Please go ahead and apply, even if you are not sure how all the money will come together.

Do you know of any other scholarships I could apply for that would help me attend Snow Farm Summer?  We are partners with Scholastic Art & Writing which runs a scholarship program for Gold and Silver Key winners in their art contests.  Some schools have funds to support summer experiences for their students so check with your guidance counselor.  There may also be scholarships available through art organizations in your town.  Goggle is your friend!

Can I get a tour of your facility before I apply?
Absolutely.  Give our office a call (413-268-3101) to schedule and we'll be glad to show you around.

Can you provide references?
Absolutely.  We have many happy parents and students who would be happy to answer any of your questions.

What is your cancellation policy?

Students who wish to cancel can be fully refunded (less the non-refundable $60 application fee) until May 15, 2018.  After May 15, 2018, there are no refunds for cancellation, late arrival, or early departure for any reason.  In addition, if a student is required to leave the program due to a violation of program policy, no refunds will be given.
