Stained glass artist Michel L'Huillier appeared recently on the beloved TV show This Old House. Michel worked with a homeowner to help her design, create, and install a custom stained glass window for her home. TOH shows the full renovation over a season, including one episode (Jan 18, 2018) that shows creating the stained glass window, and a later episode that shows the installation. If you're inspired by Michel, catch him in person at Snow Farm, September 1 - 3, 2018, Stained Glass: You, Me & Tiffany, a great class for beginners. Watch Michel now on This Old House.
More good news from the stained glass studio! In 2011, Joseph Cavalieri was invited to the Sacatar Foundation for a two-month visiting artist residency in Itaparica, Brazil, an island off the city of Salvador. In 2017, Joseph returned to the island, this time after desiging a 6-foot round stained glass window for the Our Lady of Mercy Church in Itaparica. During the recent residency, Joseph's project was to create and install the window in the historic church, an event that held great importance and brought much joy to the local community. We are so happy to have Joseph at Snow Farm for a whole week: May 20 - 26, 2018 offering an innovative workshop that uses Aesop's Fables for inspiratoin. For a closer look at the Brazil project, see Joseph's blog or this video also gives a good look at the process. Congratulations, Joseph, on this wonderful accomplishment and contribution.
Congratulations to Melanie Mowinski on the completion of her 50 Card Project. Each week for 50 weeks since the Presidential Inauguration in 2017, Melanie produced a limited edition letterpress card in response to what she observed and felt about the charged political climate in the United States. Her intention was to be positive, keep herself and others energized, and create a reminder about what is important and at stake in our democracy. An exhibit of all 50 cards is on display at the MCLA Gallery in North Adams, MA until March 24. Melanie will offer a Snow Farm workshop June 22 -26 as part of the Art Retreat for Educators. Recent press about Melanie here and here.
