Hayne Bayless is a studio potter in Ivoryton, CT. He managed to avoid formal instruction in ceramics, with the exception of lessons at age 18 with a Tokyo potter, and later, a handful of classes and workshops. He quit a perfectly good newspaper job in 1992 to make pottery. Hayne abandoned the potter's wheel early on, drawn to the freedom of hand-building. He has shown work at the American Craft Museum, NY, and the American Museum of Ceramic Art, CA, and is represented by Freehand Gallery (Los Angeles), AKAR Gallery (Iowa), Schaller Gallery (Michigan), Clay Studio (Philadelphia), and Plinth Gallery (Denver). He has exhibited often at the Smithsonian Craft Show, the Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show, and the Minnesota Potters Tour. Hayne's work is exhibited and published frequently.
